Blu Lewis
Before Blu Lewis planted a single plant, they surveyed their yard, identifying nearly every plant species growing and studying the topography and sunlight. It’s a key practice of permaculture - taking time to understand how the land and plants work, rather than imposing our will on the land.
Even in December, wild strawberries, plantain, mugwort, alyssum, and meadow grass line pathways and bring bright green to an otherwise dormant garden. Meanwhile, in the greenhouse, worm bins, teaming with life, wait for spring.
Blu has plans to turn their backyard into a self-sustaining food forest, complete with an orchard. The front garden will be more focused on growing plants neighbors will be interested in.
